Detroit’s Historic Avenue of Fashion just got a new reason to stop. SHE HER HIS BEAUTY, the new Black-owned beauty storefront from Detroit entrepreneur Latisha Higgins, has officially opened on Livernois Avenue.
The shop carries a curated selection of natural beauty products — nourishing hair products, beard oils, and her signature hair perfumes — all made with intention, for people who want products that are gentle and effective. The journey started personal: after dealing with eczema and hunting for products that wouldn’t irritate her skin, Latisha started making her own. Long shifts in corrections inspired the lightweight hair fragrance, built to keep hair smelling fresh all day without being overpowering.
Opening a brick-and-mortar is a milestone, and she had help getting there — a $50,000 Motor City Match grant funded the renovations for the new location, part of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation’s push to help small businesses root themselves in neighborhood commercial districts. Her long-term vision goes beyond retail: she wants to create mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities that introduce young people to entrepreneurship and careers in the beauty industry.
